This week, the Left Unread Nice Guy Specialists (L.U.N.G.S.) discuss a monumental historical figure who has been tragically underrepresented in Western historical discourse: Mansa Musa I, fabulously wealthy and powerful leader of the 14th Century West African Mali Empire. Musa’s immeasurable wealth, and the glory and splendor of his realm, are truly the stuff of legends. He was so wealthy that he single handedly undermined the value of gold in the entire Mediterranean with just one road trip.
